Perhaps. After all, Edie's songs ARE about substanceless celebrities. Still, they are substantial songs. Edie writes substantial songs that deal with serious subject matter. She addresses the poignant questions raised by figures like Martin Sheen and Molly Ringwald as they boldly strut across America's vast scanscape. She does not merely say, "Martin, Molly, howdy-hoo."
